Mayr-Melnhof Karton has acquired the board mill Gruber+Weber Karton in Gernsbach- Obertsrot, which is located in southern Germany. The transaction is subject to approval by the relevant German competition authorities. The company was previously under family ownership. No further details will be released regarding the purchase price.

The mill is well established on the Middle European markets and produced approximately 150,000 tons of recycled fiber based board on a single board machine in the year 2000. The plant is in excellent condition. Following the integration into the Mayr-Melnhof Cartonboard Division and an optimized product spread among the MM board mills, significant improvements in efficiency and synergies can be expected. As part of Europe‘s largest producer of coated cartonboard, the Gernsbach mill will play an essential role in the supply of Middle European customers and benefit from the high level of service efficiency and quality of MM Karton.
