Mayr-Melnhof Karton restructures production in Switzerland
- Concentration of production at the Deisswil mill
- Board mill Emil Christ ceases production
As a result of the recent acquisition of the Swiss cartonboard producer Emil Christ AG located in Thal and merging the sales organization with that of the Deisswil mill, Mayr-Melnhof Karton has created the basis for optimally serving its customers in the Swiss market. The restructuring of production capacities which involves the discontinuation of operations at Emil Christ AG will proceed from this time forth.
Production shall be ceased gradually in order to enable the customers a smooth transition to the Mayr-Melnhof Group's various other modern board machines, most notably that of the Swiss mill, Karton Deisswil AG. Therefore, the shutdown of operations will take place over a period of several weeks. A social plan benefiting the entire Emil Christ AG staff will be negotiated in the coming weeks. Approximately 120 employees produced roughly 38,000 tons of recycled cartonboard per annum at the site in Thal.
