MM Karton plans pioneering renewal of the power station at the Frohnleiten mill
Mayr-Melnhof Karton has started the planning and approval procedure for a new power station at the Frohnleiten mill in Styria, Austria. Approximately 90 % of the cartonboard mill’s power requirements are currently covered with bought-in natural gas.
The objective of the investment is to replace natural gas from 2009 through the sustained use of available replacement fuels, some of which are products of paper recycling.
The plant is to have an output of around 100 MW. Mayr-Melnhof Karton has approximately 500 employees at the Frohnleiten mill, producing over 400 000 tons of recycled fiber based cartonboard each year.
