Opening of MM Gravure Trier
Mayr-Melnhof Opens Europe's Most Efficient Gravure Printing Plant for Packaging in Germany
Together with state secretary Hendrik Hering of the Rhineland-Palatinate gov-ernment and the mayor of Trier, Helmut Schröer, the CEO and chairman of the Management Board of the Mayr-Melnhof Group, Wilhelm Hörmanseder, today has officially opened the most modern European gravure printing site for packaging. With an investment of about EUR 20 million the MM Gravure printing site will create approximately 100 new workplaces – in addition to 730 already existing in this federal state.
For the Vienna-based Mayr-Melnhof Group, the new factory in Trier is the fourth fold-ing carton production site in Rhineland-Palatinate. In its twelve German factories (nine folding carton plants and three cartonboard mills), the company employs about 2,500 people.
With sales totaling EUR 1.46 bn. and 33 factories all over Europe the Mayr-Melnhof Group is the largest manufacturer of folding cartons in Germany and Europe and the world-leader in recycled fiber based cartonboard. Arithmetically, almost daily each European household opens up a new carton produced by the company. Since 1994, Mayr-Melnhof is listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange.
MM Gravure, Europe’s most modern gravure printing plant for packaging, for the first time realizes highest flexibility at maximum speed in packaging gravure. By separat-ing the printing process from converting and finishing, Mayr-Melnhof is offering a unique technological concept. With this so-called offline process, MM Gravure deliv-ers unprecedented production speed and performance in gravure printing of folding cartons. Measured in running meters, the annual output of MM Gravure could encircle the globe twice.
