The history of the MAYR-MELNHOF Group started more than 100 years ago.

| 1950 | The installation of the first modern cartonboard mill in Frohnleiten, Austria, marked the beginning of the industrial board production. |
| 1952 | Entrance into waste-paper business. |
| 1959 | Start up of folding carton production. |
| 1974 | Hirschwang Karton becomes the second Austrian mill of the MM-Group. |
| 1984 | The acquisition of FS-Karton in Germany was the first step towards the Group's internationalisation. |
| 1994 | IPO of Mayr-Melnhof Karton AG at the Vienna Stock Exchange. Issue of 4.0 million new shares. Beginning of a rapid expansion in the packaging business. |
| 1997 | Acquisition of the cigarette carton printing plant from R.J. Reynolds in Trier, Germany. |
| 1998 | Mayr-Melnhof and Kellogg agree on a long-term supply contract for the supply of cartonboard and folding cartons. Acquisition of the Slovenian board mill Kolicevo Karton.

| 1999 | The rebuilding of board machine III in the Frohnleiten mill exceeds high expectations. |
| 2000 | Combination of the folding carton production in Vienna. Closure of the English cartonboard plant Colthrop; sale of the English recycling business |
| 2001 | Acquisition of the German board mill Gruber+Weber Karton, Gernsbach.
